CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Saluki women's golf head coach Alexis Mihelich has announced the completion of her 2013-14 recruiting class with the signing of Xianmei Jin.

Jin, born in Qingdao, China, comes to SIU from Mesa Grande Academy in Calimesa, Calif. Although her high school did not have a golf team, Jin played in individual junior tournaments until she turned 18 in 2012. Jin has an average round score of 77.2 in American Junior Golf Association competition, she finished second at the College Golf Combine in 2012 among some of the best future Division I talent in the country, and she has two career rounds of 69 -- once at the 2010 SCPGA Junior Tour Desert Open and again in 2012 at the AJGA Junior Open.

At the time her National Letter of Intent was signed, Jin was ranked the 66th-best prospect in the country by the Junior Golf Scoreboard. Jin will bolster a highly-accomplished freshman class that includes two-time Missouri state champion Brooke Cusumano (St. Louis, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy, ranked 260th), four-time all-conference honoree Kristie Yang (Chino, Calif./Diamond Bar HS, ranked 160th) and four-time team MVP and walk-on Savannah Myers (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower HS).

"(Jin) comes to SIU with national and international tournament experience," said head coach Alexis Mihelich. "During the last three years in California she has competed among the best junior players in the world. She is dedicated to the game and wants to win. She is also excited to be a part of a golf team for the first time and is looking forward to the team environment."
