Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University's women's golf team will open its 2002 fall season Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 9-10 at the Illinois State University Redbird Classic.

The two-day event will be played at the ISU Golf Course and will consist of eight teams, including Bradley, Loyola, Northern Illinois, SIU, Missouri-Kansas City, Northern Iowa, Western Illinois and host Illinois State.

SIU's lineup for its season-opener will consist of Megan Tarrolly (No. 1), Tiffany Fritsche (No. 2), Abbigail Johnson (No. 3), Stefanie Pate (No. 4), Amy Rankin (No. 5) and Natalie Parker (No. 6). For Fritsche, Johnson and Parker, next week will mark the first time competing in a collegiate tournament.

"We have three people teeing up for the first time and we'll see how we measure up right off the bat," said head coach Diane Daugherty. "I don't know what to expect in the first tournament, but with any young team, you're going to have some good days and you're going to have some not-so-good days. We'll just have to go in and do the best we can."

SIU placed second among 15 teams who participated in the ISU Redbird Classic last season.
