ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois freshman Amy Lee has been named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. Lee won the SIUE Doubletree Intercollegiate on Tuesday for her first collegiate individual win.

"Amy is a rising star in the MVC," head coach Alexis Mihelich said. "As she develops and her career progresses, she will be a solid competitor in the league for the next four years."

Lee won the SIUE Doubletree Intercollegiate on Tuesday by two strokes, leading a pack of five Salukis in the top 15. Lee shot a career low round in the opening round on Monday and then beat that mark by four strokes in the final round to claim the individual title.

Lee led the Salukis to the team title at the tournament, as well, marking the second-straight season Southern has swept both the team and individual titles at the SIUE Doubletree Intercollegiate.

Lee led the tournament in pars (23) and Par-5 scoring (+1) in the 36-hole tournament held at Sunset Hills Country Club in Edwardsville, Ill. Her second-round score (75) was the best second-round score in the 59-player field by two strokes. Her two-round score (154) was one-stroke better than last year's SIUE Doubletree Intercollegiate individual champion, former Saluki Alisha Matthews.

The honor is the first of the season for the Salukis, who garnered six MVC Golfer of the Week honors last year. The honor marks the second straight year SIU has had a true freshman earn the laurel, after Ryann Gilley earned the recognition last year.
