FORT MYERS, Fla.-- Southern Illinois split the second day of the FGCU Tournament opening Saturday with a dominating victory over Georgia Southern before losing to Florida Gulf Coast in the nightcap.

SIU 10, Georgia Southern 1   Box Score

The Salukis (4-4) got revenge against Georgia Southern (5-2) Saturday afternoon topping the Eagles with a convincing 10-1 victory at the FGCU Softball Complex.

Southern Illinois' offense barraged Georgia Southern as SIU combined to score 10 runs off 14 hits, including two seventh-inning home runs to sweeten the score.

Georgia Southern got on the board in the first inning scoring their only run of the game. SIU starter Brittney Lang was an ace in the circle holding GSU the remainder of the game, pitching a complete game and giving up only one run and one walk.

Southern Illinois got right to work in the second inning, scoring one run to even the score. Jayna Spivey singled to bring in Meredith Wilson.

The third and fifth inning each saw one run to give the Dawgs a two-run edge.

The Saluki hitters got hot in the final two innings of the ball game. Jayna Spivey doubled to lead off the sixth inning. Lacey Newbold followed suit hitting a solid single to score Spivey. SIU scored two more runs with the help from a GSU error and single from Taylor Orsburn.

Jayna Spivey led the Salukis offensively having a perfect day at the plate going 4-for-4.

SIU 0, Florida Gulf Coast 6  Box Score

Southern Illinois' (4-5) offensive momentum came to a halt on Saturday night as Florida Gulf Coast (4-2) scored four runs in the first inning to take the lead over the Salukis.

Alyssa Wunderlich had a tough outing in the circle pitching only three innings giving up five runs on six hits. Brittney Lang entered in the fourth inning but could not tame the FGCU offense.

The Eagles scored two more runs late in the game to cushion the lead.

Morgan Barchan recorded two hits for the Salukis but was unable to reach home plate.

The Salukis will wrap-up the FGCU Tournament tomorrow morning, taking on No. 1 Alabama at 8 a.m. CT.
