JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The Southern Illinois University softball team recorded seven runs in five different innings to hold off the Tigers of Savannah State on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the UNF Osprey Invitational.

Southern Illinois (4-5) recorded one run off one hit in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead over Savannah State (3-6).

SIU added another lone run in the second before stranding the bases loaded.

Savannah State got hot in the top of the third inning loading the bases with no outs. The Lady Tigers were able to score four runs on four hits and force Southern to replace Katie Bertelsen in the circle. Shaye Harre retired two batters before a fielding error cost SIU the final run of the inning.

The Salukis scored a single run in the bottom of the third inning to trail 4-3.

Savannah State struck again in the fifth inning scoring one run and loading the bases with no outs. Alyssa Wunderlich took her turn in the circle, working Southern out of the jam to not allow SSU to score any additional runs.

Caylee Cook kicked-off the bottom of the inning with her third hit of the game, a double. SIU went on to score two runs off two hits to even up the score at five apiece.

Wunderlich held Savannah State scoreless in the top of the sixth. Southern Illinois took the opportunity to take back the lead, adding two runs courtesy of an Allie VadeBoncouer double.

Alyssa Wunderlich stayed consistent for the Salukis throwing a 1-2-3 seventh inning to seal the win for Southern Illinois.
