Limited spots are still available for two Saluki Softball hitting camps this summer. The one-day camps are set for July 14 and 15 from 12 - 2:30 p.m. CT in the Garden Grove Event Center.
Saluki softball outfielder Kalyn Harker has been nominated by the Missouri Valley Conference for the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year. Harker and UNI basketball's Brooke Brown are the MVC nominees for the award.
The Saluki Softball program was part of the first regular-season Division I softball games played outside the United States. SIU went to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, for five days. The highlight of the trip came one morning when the team had the opportunity to work with local school kids and teach the game of softball.
Two Saluki seniors saved their best for last. Kalyn Harker led the Missouri Valley Conference in batting average in league play, and Katie Bertelsen led the league in conference wins with 13.
SIU entered the second weekend of the conference season 3-0 but hosted the preseason Valley favorite Wichita State Shockers for a three-game series. In a dramatic series, all three games were decided by one run. SIU won all three games in its last at-bat, two by walk-off.
