    CARBONDALE, Ill.--The Southern Illinois University softball team will travel to Jacksonville, Florida for the University of North Florida Osprey Invitational. The Salukis are scheduled to play five games in three days at the UNF Softball complex beginning Friday morning at 9 a.m. CT.

    SIU AT THE NORTH FLORIDA OSPREY INVITATIONAL Saluki Softball will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. for a three-day invitational hosted by the University of North Florida. Southern Illinois will open the invite on Friday playing Quinnipiac and Troy. On Saturday, the Salukis will play Savannah State and host North Florida. The invite will conclude Sunday morning when the Salukis meet with Troy.

    WEEKEND RECAP The Salukis split opening weekend at the Century Link Classic hosted by Texas State. On Saturday, SIU topped Stephen F. Austin, 7-3, and Texas A&M Corpus-Christi, 11-7. On Sunday the Salukis fell to Ball State 5-4 and Texas State 9-0.

    SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC The Bobcats open their 2014 season against the Salukis on Friday. Quinnipiac was selected to finish seventh in the MAAC preseason coaches' poll. The Bobcats finished the 2013 season with a record of 17-35 and finished their final season as a member of the Northeast Conference in seventh place overall with a mark of 9-11 in NEC play. Quinnipiac failed to reach the postseason for the first time since the 2009 season.

    SCOUTING TROY The Trojans enter the weekend 2-2-1 after opening the season with a tie against Auburn before splitting at the Troy Subway Invitational. The Trojans return several top athletes from a season ago, including Preseason All-Sun Belt selection Kacie McAllister. McAllister hit .313 with 31 runs scored, 46 hits and nine doubles in 2013 while also leading the SBC in 13 sacrifice bunts. n all, Troy returns five starters in the field overall and three starters in the circle, and brings in a talented group of 12 newcomers.

    SCOUTING SAVANNAH STATE Savannah State finished opening weekend 3-1 at the SSSU Softball Tournament. The Lady Tigers SSU fell one game short of the title game in 2013's MEAC Championship Tournament and concluded the season with a 26-24 record.

    SCOUTING NORTH FLORIDA The Osprey's enter their tournament boasting a record of 4-1. UNF defeated Northwestern State in both its meetings as well as Middle Tennessee and Memphis before falling to No. 6 Alabama. UNF returns much of its team from a year ago that captured the 2013 Atlantic Sun Regular Season title, posted a 42-15 record and advanced to its first A-Sun Tournament. Kaylie Wallace, the reigning A-Sun Pitcher of the Year, was selected as this season's Preseason Pitcher of the Year and returns to the circle for UNF.

    DESIGNATED FRESHMAN Shaye Harre had a stellar debut for Southern Illinois. In her first collegiate game, the freshman went two-for-two at the plate recording a double and a single and worked two walks to score one run and one RBI to help the Salukis to a 7-3 win over Stephen F. Austin. The Nashville, Ill. native stayed hot in SIU's second game of the day knocking in a triple to score one run. Harre finished the game with one hit, one RBI, and two walks en route to an 11-7 SIU win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Harre's hitting streak continued on Sunday when she singled in her first at-bat against Ball State.

    SOPHOMORE SLUGGERS The Saluki sophomores stepped up offensively last weekend at the Century Link Classic. Taylor Harris and Caylee Cook each recorded their first career homerun's while Kelsey Gonzalez recorded four hits including two doubles to record three runs.

    A LOOK AT THE DAWGS SIU returns 14 letterwinners, including seven position starters and two pitchers from the 2013 squad that went 25-27.

    FRESH FACES Southern Illinois welcomed four freshmen to the 2014 roster in Shaye Harre (P/Nashville, Ill.), Merri Anne Patterson (OF/Lynville, Tenn.), Jessa Thomas (C/Johnston City, Ill.) and Brook Womack (INF, Chattanooga, Tenn.).
