CARBONDALE, Ill.— The remainder of the Southern Illinois softball team’s Saluki Invitational has been cancelled due to rain.

Southern held a 3-2 advantage over Illinois-Chicago entering the bottom of the third inning Sunday when the continued rainfall caused the game to be called. There were also two more scheduled games (Eastern Kentucky vs. Belmont, Belmont vs. SIU) that were washed out.

Wisconsin defeated UIC 2-1 in eight innings and topped Eastern Kentucky 5-1 in the two early games Sunday before the rain came in.

SIU finished the Saluki Invitational at 1-1 after falling to Wisconsin 7-3 and topping EKU 9-1 Saturday. SIU will play a doubleheader Tuesday at Austin Peay to help make up for the games the Salukis have lost due to weather.

“Overall, I thought it was a pretty good weekend,” said SIU head coach Kerri Blaylock. “I wish we would have gotten more in, but we’ll go down to Austin Peay and play a doubleheader and try to get back in the swing of things.”
