    SIUE QUICK HITS
    All-time history

The Salukis hold a dominant advantage over the Cougars, 35-6. The two teams met previously this season at the Coach B Classic where SIU took the tournament finale in a 4-1 victory. The Dawgs used four runs off four hits as Katie Bertelsen went a complete game striking out three. The top of the Salukis order generated all the offense as Mallory Duran-Sellers, Kelsea Ashton, Allie VadeBoncouer and Meredith Wilson each had a hit in the contest.

ON DECK: SIUE (11-19, 3-7 OVC)
The Salukis will meet an uncharacteristically struggling SIUE squad who has dropped the last three games prior to Tuesday's meeting including a pair of games to SEMO this weekend. They have lost the last 10 of 14 and struggle on offense holding a team .258 batting average. They are led by freshman utility player Brittany Toney who holds a .354 batting average in 22 games with 17 hits and 12 RBI. Alex McDavid, Lindsey Barron and Chelsea Yankolovich each hold above .300 averages and have each appeared in all 30 games. In the circle, the Cougars hold a team 3.66 ERA as Amanda Lambretch and Lindsey Coleman have combined for all the Cougars wins. Lambretch has appeared in 21 games including 12 complete games and a save.

    ORSBURN BECOMES SALUKIS' GO-TO
Before beginning conference play, sophomore first baseman Taylor Orsburn was in a slump. She held just a .209 batting average that was following up an impressive freshman campaign in 2011 where she hit 10 home runs and had 49 RBI, the second-most in a single season at SIU. Orsburn's bat has come alive in the past two weekends, however, as the Alto Pass, Ill., native holds a .571 average with 12 hits, two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI during that span. She hit home runs in back-to-back innings sparking a game one win over Creighton and went 7-for-7 in Saturday's doubleheader sweep. She was named the MVC Player of the Week Monday for her efforts.

    SLUGGING IT OUT
If the season ended today, the Salukis would go down in the record books as the best hitting team in school history. Currently the record for batting average is .315 set in 1994 and the Dawgs currently hold a .317 clip for the 2012 season. Two Salukis are batting above .400 as Mallory Duran-Sellers (.429) and Meredith Wilson (.412) lead the team in batting averages and the next four averages are above .300.

    NATION LEADING

In the national statistics, the Salukis are ranking among among the top of all Division I teams at the plate as a team and individually.

    Team Categories

    • 9th in scoring (172 runs, 6.86 per game)
    • 24th in batting average (.317)
    • 27th in home runs (24, .96 per game)
    • 27th in slugging percentage (.481)

    Individual Categories

    • Kelsea Ashton ranks third in sacrifice hits per game (12, .48 per game), 48th in toughest to strikeout, and 21st in walks (20, .80 per game)
    • Allie VadeBoncouer ranks second in hit-by-pitch (14, .56 per game), 11th in on-base percentage (.558), 22nd in RBI per game (29, 1.16 per game) and 46th in walks (18, .72 per game)
    • Mallory Duran-Sellers ranks tied for 37th in batting average (.429), eighth in on-base percentage (.564), fourth in runs per game (33, 1.32 per game), and fifth in walks (29,.96 per game)

    SO CLOSE
While the Salukis took the series victory with a pair of wins over Creighton Saturday, the Dawgs couldn't secure the first complete three-game sweep over the Bluejays in program history as they dropped a 7-6 decision Sunday. The Salukis pounded out 34 hits, 33 runs, and drew 18 walks while holding a .378 batting average on the weekend as they tallied 10-4 and 17-8 victories. The 17 runs the Salukis put up in the game two doubleheader was the most Creighton has ever allowed in a conference match up.

    MARATHON INNINGS
The Salukis are no strangers to battling out some long innings this season. Thirteen of the Salukis 25 games have been over two hours long with the longest game of the season against No. 25 Florida State lasting two hours and thirty-five minutes. But it doesn't seem to affect the Dawgs, as they have compiled a 10-3 record in games over two hours long.
