CARBONDALE, Ill. - The No. 18/20-ranked Southern Illinois University softball team (28-8) continues its eight-game road swing Tuesday with a doubleheader at nearby Southeast Missouri State (10-17).
The Salukis are coming off a rough series last weekend at conference leader Creighton. SIU dropped two of three to the Bluejays and fall to second in the Missouri Valley Conference rankings this week.
Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri are familiar foes, having faced off 85 times that are on record since 1976.
SIU has won 12-straight contests against the Redhawks after picking up a pair of wins last season. Cassidy Scoggins earned both decisions last year as the Salukis won the first game 4-0 and followed up with an 8-4 win in the second game.
Southern holds a 63-21-1 all-time series advantage and head coach Kerri Blaylock is 16-1 in her career against the Redhawks. The lone loss came in Blaylock's second season at the helm of the SIU program.
The matchup is a bit of a homecoming for Blaylock as SEMO is where she got her start in coaching back in 1988 under Lana Richmond.
Richmond is in her 25th season as head coach of the Redhawks and has a 722-491-2 record in that position. Blaylock recently reached the 300-win plateau and is 302-124 all-time at SIU.
Action in the mid-week doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m. at the Southeast Sports Complex.
