    LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Southern Illinois softball second baseman Jayna Spivey has been named to the All-Mideast Region Third Team, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Thursday. The senior ranked in the top-10 of the MVC in nine offensive categories in 2014.

    Spivey earned her fourth career All-MVC nod in 2014 after ranking among the top players in the Missouri Valley Conference in 2014. She ranked in the top-10 in the conference in hits, runs, batting average, slugging percentage, doubles, walks, on-base percentage, RBIs, total bases and plate appearances. Her 17 doubles led the conference by three and set an SIU single-season record. She led the Salukis to a No. 25 ranking nationally in doubles per game.

    Spivey ends her career as one of the most decorated hitters in SIU and MVC history. She is the third four-time All-MVC player in SIU history and just the 15th four-time All-Conference player in MVC history. She holds SIU's career record for RBIs with 147, which ranks fifth in MVC history. She ranks in the top-10 in school history in career hits, at-bats, runs scored, doubles, home runs and RBIs.

    She is the first SIU player to earn All-Region honors since Mallory Duran-Sellers earned second-team honors in 2012. Spivey's selection marks the 13th time in head coach Kerri Blaylock's 15 seasons as a head coach that SIU has had at least one player named to an All-Region team.

    The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third teams selected for each region. The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2014 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
