Foster served as an assistant at SIU from 2000-05 before leaving for coaching stints at Bradley, Kansas and most recently at SIU Edwardsville.
“I am so excited to welcome back Buddy to our staff,” Blaylock said. “He is a great college coach and recruiter and I am fortunate to have him once again as part of Saluki Softball.”
Foster’s main responsibilities with the team will be recruiting, but he will also assist with pitching and hitting.
“I am thrilled to be back at SIU. This is home for me and I am really excited to work with Kerri and Jen (Sewell),” Foster said. “Kerri has had remarkable success for several years and I feel honored that she brought me back here to be a part of such a special program again. I could not be happier.”
Foster was an assistant coach at SIUE the last four seasons during which the Cougars went 113-96, including a 35-13 record in 2013. Foster helped mentor 14 All-Ohio Valley Conference selections at SIUE, including 2013 OVC Player of the Year Alex McDavid and Freshman of the Year Haley Chambers.
Prior to his stint in Edwardsville, Foster served one season as the associate head coach at Kansas until the Jayhawks’ head coach Tracy Bunge’s retirement. Before KU, Foster was the head coach at Bradley for three seasons from 2006-08.
Foster helped revive a struggling BU program that had registered just one 20-win season in the five years prior to his arrival. The Braves posted back-to-back winning seasons during his first two seasons in Peoria, Ill., marking the first time BU had accomplished that feat in 11 years. Foster ultimately racked up 63 wins with Bradley and the Braves ranked among the top 25 in the nation in team GPA each year.
Foster served two seasons as an assistant at his alma mater, Southeast Missouri State, from 1998-99 before coming to SIU. The Redhawks went 69-30-1 during Foster’s two years on staff with back-to-back OVC regular season and tournament titles and consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Foster got his start in coaching as a graduate assistant at SEMO from 1992-93 before serving one season as the head coach at John A. Logan College in 1996.
