CARBONDALE, Ill.-- Nine Southern Illinois softball players were named All-America Scholar-Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Salukis Kelsea Ashton, Morgan Barchan, Kalyn Harker, Alicia Junker, Brittney Lang, Mallory Duran-Sellers, Jayna Spivey, Meredith Wilson and Alyssa Wunderlich all earned the honor for maintaining a GPA of 3.50 or higher during the 2011-12 academic year.

Earlier this fall, the NFCA announced SIU posted the fourth-highest team GPA in the nation at 3.582 during the 2011-12 academic year. It marked SIU's ninth NFCA All-Academic Top 10 ranking since 2001, and the program's second-consecutive top-five finish.

Mallory Duran-Sellers became SIU softball's 23rd Academic All-American in 2012. Nebraska is the only Division I program with more Academic All-Americans with 29.
