DEKALB, Ill.- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season today against Chicago State, 6-1.

The Salukis (1-1) showed their experience defeating a young Chicago State team handily. SIU took the doubles point after Melanie Delsart and Anastacia Simons defeated Chicago State's Karyn Emeraldo and Marnie-Perez Ochoa (8-6) at the No. 1 spot. Korey Love and Anita Lee picked up the win at the No. 2 doubles spot, defeating their Cougar counterparts (8-0).

SIU dominated in singles action winning 5-of-6 matches. Anita Lee defeated Carynne Lloyd (7-5, 6-0) at No. 2, while Jennifer Dien improved to 2-0 on the season after her (6-1, 6-1) win over Sabrine Naverro at the No. 5 slot.

"Chicago State is a really improved team from last year when we played them, and it shows at the top of their lineup," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "We came out and played well, but we need to play with more confidence and that will come as we play more."

The Salukis have a quick turnaround as they play Northern Illinois tomorrow morning in Dekalb. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m.
