CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team played host to in-state foe Chicago State Saturday, downing the Cougars, 4-2, at Sports Blast.

The Cougars (3-4) won the doubles point, but in the end it did not matter as SIU (2-3) would take 4-of-5 single matches to win the dual. The duo of Polina Dozortseva and Ariadna Cairo Baza secured the only doubles win at the No. 3 slot for the Salukis with a 8-2 win over Marnie Perez and Sabrine Navarro of CSU.

"We need to make adjustments in our doubles matches," said head coach Audra Anderson. "That's what we are working on in practice. -- We've got to start winning that point."

In singles action, freshman Meagan Monaghan continued her hot streak winning at the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 6-1. The Denver, Colo. native improves to 3-1 this spring in singles action.

Senior Anita Lee picked ups win at the No. 3 spot, (6-1, 6-0) while A. Cairo Baza won 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot. Dozortseva picked up a hard-fought win at the fifth spot, besting CSU's Navarro 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The Salukis have a quick turnaround as they host Murray State in a 1 p.m. matchup at Sports Blast.
