CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team notched their first sweep of the season Saturday, taming the Eastern Illinois Panthers, 7-0, at Sportsblast.

The Salukis won all three doubles matches on the day. Melanie Delsart and Anastacia Simons defeated Merritt Whitley and Janelle Prinser, 8-6. Anita Lee and Korey Love bested their counterparts, 8-5 and Natasha Tomishima and Jennifer Dien defeated Ali Foster and Kristen Laird, 8-2.

Southern started where they left off when singles play began. Delsart bested Janelle Prinser (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 1 spot to record her first dual win of the season. Simons defeated Kristen Laird (6-1, 6-4) at No. 5 and Natasha Tomishima bested Sephora Boulbahaiem (7-5, 7-5) at No. 3 singles.

In addition, Anita Lee, Gisela Cairo Baza and Dien all garnered victories for the Salukis.

"It was nice to get a big win at our first home match," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "We are starting to play with more intensity on our shots, but we need to keep working on the little things."

SIU will have a quick turnaround when they travel to Murray State tomorrow in search of their fourth win. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
