CARBONDALE, Ill. -The Saluki women's tennis team played host to Murray State (3-3) Sunday afternoon at Sports Blast, besting the Racers, 4-3, to pick up its third win of the year.

Southern (3-3) won the doubles point for the first time this spring, and it proved to be key to victory. Natasha Tomishima and Meagan Monaghan won their match at the No. 1 spot, besting a Murray duo, 8-6. At the No. 3 doubles slot, Korey Love and Ariadna Cairo Baza bested Carla Suga and Megan Blue, 8-1.

"We tried something completely different in our doubles today and it really worked," said head coach Audra Anderson.

In singles action, Monaghan defeated Suga at the No. 2 spot (6-2, 6-1) to pick up her fourth straight victory of the spring. Tomishima won at the No. slot 7-5, after Andrea Eskauriatza was not able to finish the match. Senior Anita Lee picked up her third-straight win of the season over Eleonore Tchakarova, 7-5, 6-2.

"I was really pleased with the top portion of our lineup," said Anderson. "They were mentally tough and got some good wins."

The Salukis will continue their homestand this weekend when they host Arkansas State on Friday with a 5 p.m. first serve.
