ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team rolled to its eighth straight win today versus Quinnipiac, 7-0.
SIU (8-1) wasted no time taking the doubles point from Quinnipiac as Jennifer Dien and Natasha Tomishima won 9-8 at flight No. 2 while Korey Love and Anita Lee won 8-2 at the No. 3 spot. Melanie Delsart and Anastacia Simons continue their hot streak at flight No. 1, besting their Bobcat counterparts 8-6.
In singles action Southern took all six matches. Delsart defeated Rachel Cantor (6-1, 7-6) at No. 1 while Tomishima bested Jacqueline Raynor (7-5, 6-2) at the No. 2 position. Lee bounced back at the No. 3 slot with a (6-1, 6-4) win and Dien won her match (3-6, 6-4, 1-0) to notch her eighth straight dual match win. Ariadna Cairo Baza won (6-4, 2-6, 1-0) at No. 5 and Gisela Cairo Baza took flight No. 6 with a (6-4, 6-2) win over Ariana Launie.
"Some of our matches were pretty close and I am proud of how we stayed aggressive through the pressure points," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "We showed our mental toughness by winning all four of our tiebreakers."
