O'Fallon, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team fell to Saint Louis University Thursday, 5-2, at the St. Clair Tennis Center in O'Fallon, Ill.

The Salukis fall to 11-5 on the season and 1-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Southern swept doubles play easily as SLU did not secure more than five points in any match. Korey Love and Anita Lee won their fifth straight match together with an 8-5 victory over their SLU counterparts. Polina Dozortseva and Ariadna Cairo Baza picked up a win in the No. 3 slot with an 8-4 win while Natasha Tomishima and Meagan Monaghan won at the top-spot, 8-6.

The Billikens (11-4) were able to take 5-of-6 singles matches to power past SIU. Ariadna Cairo Baza picked up the lone win in singles action for Southern, downing Maria Toro Moreno 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 5 slot.

We were so close in singles, with four matches that went to three-sets," said head coach Audra Anderson. "We just need to stay aggressive and going for our singles points when it gets tight."

Southern will be back in action for a Saturday doubleheader against Louisville and Lindsey Wilson College. Anderson spent four seasons as head coach of the men's and women's tennis programs at Lindsey Wilson. The Salukis and Cardinals are set to square off at 11:00 a.m., followed by a match with Lindsey Wilson.
