CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team defeated Evansville today 6-1, to mark the start of MVC conference play.

The Salukis (10-2, 1-0 MVC) didn't waste any time as they secured the doubles point from the Aces (9-5, 1-1 MVC) by winning the No. 1 and 2 spots. The duo of Melanie Delsart and Korey Love continue their success this season by defeating their Aces counterparts 8-6. Natasha Tomishima and Jennifer Dien won their match 8-3.

The Salukis dominated singles play winning 5 of 6 matches. Freshman Ariadna Cairo Baza defeated Evansville's Kelsey Costales at the No. 5 position (6-2, 3-6, 10-4) to secure her third win in a row. Sophomore Anita Lee came back from being down 3-6 in the first set to win her match (3-6, 6-1, 6-2) at the No. 2 spot. Melanie Delsart continues to stay hot for the Salukis sweeping her opponent (6-3, 6-0) to win her sixth match in a row.

"I was really happy with the way Anita came back to win her match," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "The team as a whole really showed up today."

The Salukis will be back in action on Saturday when they host Memphis, first match scheduled for 2 p.m. at University Courts.
