Waterloo, Iowa - The women's tennis team reeled in its second conference win of the season on Sunday when SIU defeated Northern Iowa, 6-1. SIU improved to 2-1 in the MVC, 6-11 overall.
The Salukis lost only one match in their rout of the Panthers. Junior Alejandra Blanco knocked out Archanna Reddy at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 7-5, while freshman Maria Blanco won at the No. 2 spot against Jamie Noyce, 6-2, 6-2. Winning her tenth match of the season, junior Jessica Knitter beat Korkoi Quaye, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 3 spot.
Singles action was rounded out as freshman Zuzana Palovic easily took the No. 4 win from Kelly Maifield, 6-0, 6-1, while sophomore walk-on Yasmine Farag received a default against Danielle Whalen at No. 6.
SIU swept the doubles point when the Blanco sisters won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles; Knitter and Palovic grabbed an 8-1 win at No. 2, and Bedard and Farag received a default at No. 3 doubles.
The Salukis will begin a five-match home stand on April 12 against SMS. Action starts at 11am. Results can be found at www.siusalukis.com.
