    CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team battled windy conditions as they played host to Illinois State for Fan Appreciation Day at University Courts, defeating the Redbirds, 6-1.

    The Salukis (12-3, 2-0 MVC) took 2-of-3 doubles matches from Illinois State, winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Anita Lee and Korey Love bested their Illinois State counterparts 8-4, while Melanie Delsart and Anastacia Simons won their match 8-6.

    In singles action Southern won 5-of-6 matches against the Redbirds (7-10, 2-1 MVC). At flight No. 1, Delsart defeated Emmie Marx 6-1, 7-6(2) and Natasha Tomishima bested Phyllis Tigges (6-3, 6-3) at the No. 2 spot.

    Sophomore Ariadna Cairo Baza won (6-1, 7-5) at No. 5 while Simons took flight No. 6 with a (6-1, 6-0) win over Gaby Phillips. Lee topped Carolina Abello 6-2, 1-6, 10-7 at No. 3 to win her second straight match.

    "We came out really focused today," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "After losing to Illinois State last year, we came out and wanted to get the job done and we did."

    The Salukis will host Bradley tomorrow at University Courts with first serve scheduled for 10 a.m.
