CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team did not disappoint on Fan Appreciation Day at University Courts Sunday, as it defeated Missouri Valley Conference foe Drake, 4-3.

The Salukis (14-6, 3-0) started the day off with doubles wins at the No. 2 and 3 slots. Seniors Anita Lee and Korey Love, who were honored prior to today's match, picked up the 8-2 win at the No. 2 slot. With the win, the duo won their 31st match together, tying them for ninth in school history. Polina Dozortseva and Ariadna Cairo Baza secured the doubles point for SIU with a close, 8-7 win over Maddie Johnson and Klavdija Rebol. The win marks the 12th win of the spring and the third in a row for the duo.

The doubles point proved to be the difference maker as Southern split the singles matches with the Bulldogs (12-4, 2-1 MVC), winning three each. SIU picked up wins at the No. 1, 2, and 6 spots.

Junior Natasha Tomishima picked up her team-leading 13th win of the spring, besting DU's Rebol 6-4, 6-2 at the top spot. Lee defeated Mariel Ante 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 while Gisela Cairo Baza edged Lea Kozulic 6-4, 6-3 to secure the win for the Salukis.

"I couldn't be prouder of the team; they had to play really mentally tough today," head coach Audra Anderson said. "Drake is a very loud team, and that isn't a usual opponent for us, so we really had to overcome that aspect of the match."

Southern will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Wichita, Kan. to take on the defending MVC champion Shockers. First serve is slated for 9:00 a.m.
