WICHITA, Kan. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team dropped its match Saturday to No. 51 Wichita State 7-0, at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex in Wichita.

The loss snaps the Salukis (14-7, 3-1 MVC) three-match winning streak.

The Salukis lost the doubles point despite two close matches at the No. 2 and 3 spots. Natasha Tomishima and Meagan Monaghan fell 8-7 (7-3) to WSU's Rebecca Pedrazzi and Montse Fernandez at the No. 2 slot. Ariadna Cairo Baza and Polina Dozortseva dropped their match, 8-6.

"We came out strong and had our chances to get the doubles point but our shots just didn't fall in the end," said head coach Audra Anderson.

The Shockers (14-6, 3-0 MVC) were able to take all six matches in singles play. Senior Anita Lee fell in her match at the No. 2 slot 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

Gisela Cairo Baza dropped her match 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 6 slot. For G. Cairo Baza, the singles loss was her first since Mar. 27 in St. Louis.

The Salukis will be back in action next weekend when they wrap up MVC play at Bradley and Illinois State.
