CARBONDALE, Ill.- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team defeated Drake this afternoon, 4-3.

The Salukis (14-4, 3-1 MVC) didn't waste any time taking the doubles point from the visiting Bulldogs, winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots. Anastacia Simons and Anita Lee defeated their DU counterparts, 8-3, while Jennifer Dien and Natasha Tomishima secured the doubles win for the Dawgs, coming back to win their match, 9-7. Melanie Delsart and Korey Love fell in their doubles match at the No. 1 slot, 7-5, (8-0).

"This weekend is probably the hardest weekend of the season, because we have two really good teams coming here," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "This was a big win for us, we need to refocus for UNI tomorrow."

The Salukis won three singles matches, just enough to clinch the win against DU. Melanie Delsart defeated Manca Krizman 7-5, 7-5 at the No. 1 slot, giving Krizman her first loss of the season. Ariadna Cairo Baza won her match at the No. 5 spot 6-2, 7-6, (5-0), and Natasha Tomishima came back to win her match at the No. 4 position 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the 4-3 win for the SIU.
