WATERLOO, Iowa -- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team picked up its 16th win of the season today with a 5-2 win over Northern Iowa, matching its total wins from last year.

The Salukis (16-3, 5-0 MVC) took 4-of-6 matches in singles play and the doubles point from the Panthers (7-9, 1-4 MVC) to secure their sixth straight win.

Natasha Tomishima bested her Northern Iowa counterpart (2-6, 6-4, 6-2) at the No. 2 spot and Anita Lee won (7-6)(6), 7-5) at flight No. 3. Anastacia Simons bested her UNI opponent easily (6-2, 6-0) while Gisela Cairo Baza won (6-4, 6-1).

"Northern Iowa really played well today, but we were able to keep our composure and fought through the pressure points," said head coach Audra Nothwehr.

Southern won the doubles point winning at the No. 1 and 3 spots. Melanie Delsart and Simons picked up an 8-3 win at No. 1 and Korey Love and Lee continue to streak, besting their UNI opponents 8-1.

"I'm really happy with our doubles play, we played well overall this weekend," Nothwehr said.

The Salukis will finish MVC play at home next weekend when they host Creighton and Wichita State. Seniors Melanie Delsart, Anastacia Simons and Jennifer Dien will be honored prior to Sunday's match against Wichita State.
