    CARBONDALE, Ill.- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team finished home play this season at the Sportsblast today, defeating Northern Iowa, 6-1.

    The Salukis (15-4, 4-1 MVC) took the doubles point from the visiting Panthers (11-9, 1-4 MVC), winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Melanie Delsart and Korey Love defeated their UNI counterparts, 8-3, while Anita Lee and Anastacia Simons won their match, 8-1.

    "I think our confidence has really grown, and it is especially seen in the freshmen," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "You don't know what to expect from them, and they are usually nervous, but our freshmen have improved the most."

    In singles play Southern didn't let up, winning five of six matches. Melanie Delsart continues to play well, defeating Cassandra Dix 6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 1 slot, improving to 4-1 in conference play. Natasha Tomishima clinched the win for SIU for the second-straight match, winning in two sets, 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Ariadna Cairo Baza defeated her opponent 8-4 at the No. 5 position, while Korey Love won at the No. 6 spot, 8-1.

    The Salukis will be back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Illinois State to take on the Redbirds. First match is slated for 1 p.m.
