NORMAL, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team closed out its regular season with a 5-2 win over Illinois State (9-9, 2-4 MVC) Saturday. The win marks the first win in Normal for the Salukis in head coach Audra Anderson's seven-year tenure.

The Salukis (16-7, 5-1 MVC) won the doubles point for consecutive days as each flight picked up victories. Seniors Korey Love and Anita Lee won 8-4 at the No. 2 position, while Polina Dozortseva and Ariadna Cairo Baza teamed up to take the No. 3 slot, 8-4. Natasha Tomishima and Meagan Monaghan won their match at the top spot by default.

In singles play, Southern won 4-of-6 matches. Junior Gisela Cairo Baza continues her hot streak with a 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 6 slot. The Barcelona, Spain native has now won eight of her last 10 matches. Ariadna Cairo Baza won her second-consecutive match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 5 spot.

After falling in the first set to ISU's Sierra Stone, Lee fought back to win the second set 6-4, before taking the third set, 10-5. Monaghan picked up a 6-4, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 position.

"We didn't look on top of our matches this weekend," said Anderson. "We still have some work to do before conference, but we got the job done today."

The Salukis will head to Normal, Ill., for the MVC Championships on April 25-27. Southern will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament for the second-straight year.
