    WICHITA, Kans. -- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team defeated No. 7 seeded Creighton 4-1 in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tennis Championship hosted by Wichita State.

    The Salukis (18-4, 6-1 MVC) took the doubles point from the Bluejays (8-12, 1-6 MVC) with ease. Melanie Delsart and Anastacia Simons defeated Jennie Hartjes and Amanda Noonan 8-3 at the No. 1 spot while Korey Love and Anita Lee bested their CU counterparts 8-1 at flight No. 3.

    Southern went on to win three matches in singles action to pick up their 18th win of the season. At flight No. 1, Delsart won (6-4, 6-4) while Natasha Tomishima bested Analese Snyder at the No. 2 spot (6-0, 6-1) to pick up her 24th win of the season.

    Sophomore Ariadna Cairo Baza clinched the win for the Salukis at the No. 4 spot with a (7-5, 6-0) win over the Bluejays' Amanda Noonan.

    SIU will be back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. when they will face Drake in the semifinal round of the MVC Championship.
