NORMAL, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team (17-8, 5-1 MVC) fell to No. 3 Drake 4-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference Team Tennis Championship semifinals Saturday, at Gregory Street Tennis Courts. The loss officially ends the Salukis 2013-14 season.

After Natasha Tomishima and Meagan Monaghan picked up the only win at the No. 1 doubles position, the Bulldogs rallied to take the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots.

Anita Lee was the lone Saluki to pick up a win in singles action. The Las Vegas native tallied her 21st win of the year with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mariel Ante. Southern could not overcome the bottom of DU’s lineup as the Bulldogs (16-5, 4-2 MVC) swept the 4-5-6 spots to clinch the win.

“We had some very close matches, especially in doubles,” said head coach Audra Anderson. “We didn’t play our best tennis today on any of the courts.”

The Salukis will return seven of nine players for the 2014-15 campaign. Seniors Korey Love and Anita Lee close out their SIU career with 32 doubles wins together, which ranks the duo ninth in school history.
