St. Louis, Mo - The SIU women's tennis team started their fall season on a high note as they competed in the Billiken Classic on the campus of Saint Louis University
Fadazi Mawisire, who was in her first tournament for the Salukis after transferring from Lindsey Wilson College, went a perfect 4-0 in No. 1 singles play beating opponents from Arkansas State, Saint Louis, Washington Universitiy, and Southeast Missouri State to earn the right of flight champion.
"Fadzai put on a great show at this tournament. She was very dominate in every singles match that she played. If she continues this level of play, she will have a great year," said head coach Audra Nothwehr.
The duo of Mawisire and Blacketer finished with a 3-1 record inthe No. 1 doubles spot while Jessica Flannery and Vishakha Sheoran went 2-2 for the No. 2 doubles flight.
Nothwehr said each player was playing with a partner they hadn't competed with before, so she said it would take some time for the players to get used to each other.
"Doubles went okay, we are working on a more aggressive style of
doubles and it will take time to get confidence in it. We have
some things that need to work on, but overall I was happy with
our efforts in sticking with our game plan," Nothwehr said.
