CARBONDALE, Ill. -The Southern Illinois women's tennis team will open the 2012 season at Eastern Illinois this Saturday.

"We are really excited for the upcoming season because we think we have a very solid team," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "We have made some great goals for the season and I know they can attain them."

The Salukis and the Panthers met in the fall season at the SIU Fall Classic. The Salukis finished the Fall Classic with an impressive 5-1 doubles record.

"They have a really good No. 1 doubles team, so we are going to have to be prepared for them to bring a lot of energy at us," said Nothwehr.

Southern will be relying on the leadership of its juniors -- Melanie Delsart, Jennifer Dien and Anastacia Simons. "They practice with great intensity, and lead by example," said Nothwehr.

Delsart comes into the season ranked No.10 in the Central region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, joining players from Tulsa, Kansas State, and Nebraska, and she was the only Missouri Valley Conference player to rank in the top 10 regionally.
