Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's tennis team will begin its Missouri Valley Conference schedule this Friday as it competes against the Purple Aces of Evansville. The road trip will also finish off the Salukis non-conference schedule when they play Tennessee-Martin on Saturday in a match rescheduled from earlier in the month.

SIU, with a 2-10 overall season record, looks to the future and hopes the beginning of the conference season will spark an increased momentum. Head coach Judy Auld believes her team is ready for conference action.

"I think we're ready for this," said Auld. "We've been working toward this all spring. This team has played some big competition that hopefully has prepared us. What we do between now and the championships is what's important."

Evansville is 4-3 this season, and is also beginning its conference season on Saturday. Tennessee-Martin has lost 7 of its last 8 matchups for a season record of 2-8.

Results of the match can be found on the team's official website at www.siusalukis.com.
