ST. LOUIS -- Southern Illinois women's tennis player Anita Lee has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Tennis Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. This is the third time Lee has earned the honor during her career.

Lee went a combined 4-0 over the weekend to help the Salukis to their 16th win of the season and the No. 2 seed in the MVC tournament.

She started the weekend with a thrilling rematch of the MVC Individual Championships that were played earlier in the season against Bradley’s Ariel Dechter. Lee fell behind in first set 5-7, before taking the second set, 6-4. The senior rallied to take the third set with a 15-13 super tiebreaker and help secure the 7-0 win over BU. In doubles, with partner Korey Love, the duo defeated BU’s Carly Miles and Ashley Thai 8-6 as SIU swept all doubles matches.

The Las Vegas native picked up another exciting singles win against Illinois State in the regular season finale Sunday. Lee bested Sierra Stone at the No. 2 position in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 to clinch the 5-2 win for SIU. Love and Lee defeated their ISU counterparts 8-4 in doubles play to pick up their 12th win of the season while improving to 5-1 in MVC play.
