CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois women's tennis coach Audra Anderson announced today the signing of four student-athletes for the 2014-15 season.

Yana Golovkina from Zaporozhye, Ukraine comes to SIU after taking third place in singles of the Championship of Ukraine. She was ranked No. 14 in Under 16 competition in Ukraine.

Athena Chrysanthou comes to Southern from Stevenage, United Kingdom. She reached No. 11 in the Under-16 age group in the UK. She has a career-high No. 60 ranking in the UK Women’s Category. She was named the Most Improved Player in the United Kingdom.

Hannah Wich from Hainburg, Germany. In the past 12 months, she has improved from No. 719 to No. 127 in the German Under-18 rankings. She won the Tretorn Tour 2013-14 Nachwuchs Cup as well as the Pro Team Tennis Academy Cup in 2013.

Maria Vitoria Beirao from Curitiba, Brazil rounds out the recruiting class for the Salukis. Wich spent time playing on the Junior Fed Cup team in Brazil. She claimed her highest national ranking in Brazil at No. 2 in Under-16 age group. The World Tennis Association ranked her as high as No. 878 in doubles.

"I am extremely excited about this class of freshmen that we have coming in next fall. I think we have a great deal of talent in singles and doubles among these four players," said Anderson. "They all fit into the mold of the athlete that really excels in our program, which is someone with great athletic movement, hard-worker, mentally tough and a hunger to improve -- It is going to be very tough finding our order of lineup in the fall."
