CARBONDALE, Ill.-- Southern Illinois University head volleyball coach Justin Ingram announced the addition of Meg Viggars to the roster for the 2013 season. The freshman is currently enrolled and attending spring semester classes at SIU.

“We are excited for Meg’s future with Saluki volleyball,” Ingram said. “She enters with tremendous athleticism and an elite skill set showing great potential at the setting position.”

The 6-foot setter joins Southern Illinois from Stoke-on-Trent, England, after an impressive career in England’s national club system.

Viggars started competing nationally at the age of 12 when she was selected to play for the England Juniors, an under-19 national development team. Viggars won three national championships in her time with the Juniors.

In 2009, Viggars was chosen as a member of team Great Britain’s beach volleyball team for the Australian Youth Olympics that were held in Sydney. The Olympic festival featured teams from 19 nations.

In 2011, Viggars was selected to compete with team Great Britain during their trials for the 2012 London Olympic games. She made her debut in June 2011 in a match against Portugal.

Viggars joins a program that went 21-9 overall and 11-7 in the Missouri Valley Conference under first-year head coach Justin Ingram.
