SIU Volleyball Notes:
Megan Baumstark led the Salukis in two MVC matches with 87 assists, 22 digs, five block assists, and a solo block. She averaged 43.5 assists and 11 digs per match, including double-doubles against Creighton (56 assists, 12 digs) and Drake (31 assists, 10 digs).
Kristie Kemner averaged a double-double (11 kills, 12 digs), including a double-double (17 kills, 16 digs) against Creighton. Qiana Nelson (13 kills, 12 digs) and Tara Cains (11 kills, 11 digs,) also had double-doubles against Creighton. Cains also had four block assists and a solo block, and Lindsey Schultz hit a strong .435 (12 kills, 2 errors, 23 attempts) with 6 digs, 5 block assists, and a solo block against the Bluejays.
Jenny Noel averaged a double-double (10 kills, 12 digs), including a .333 hitting performance (13 kills, 2 errors, 33 attempts) against Drake.
SIU travels to Bradley and Northern Iowa, in hopes of snapping a school record 11 match losing streak, including ten straight MVC matches. The Salukis lone MVC and last win was against Wichita St. on September 30.
Southern Illinois is 20-8 all-time against Bradley and 7-24 all-time versus Northern Iowa. The Salukis lost to both teams earlier in 2000.
In all matches, Kristie Kemner is fourth in aces (.45 per game) and sixth (3.55 per game) in kill average. Megan Baumstark is sixth (9.88 per game) in assists. As a team, the Salukis are sixth in aces (1.47 per game) and seventh in block average (2.25 per game).
In MVC play, Megan Baumstark ranks sixth (10.37 per game) in assists and Kristie Kemner is eighth (3.47 per game) in kill average.
Kristie Kemner leads the Salukis in kills (306), kills per game (3.56), digs (238), digs per game (2.77), total attacks (789), service aces (39), and aces per game (.45). Jenny Noel leads SIU in block assists (77), total blocks (95), blocks per game (1.04) and is tied with Lindsey Schultz for the lead in solo blocks (18). Megan Baumstark is the top Saluki in assists (880), and assists per game (9.89). Tara Cains leads SIU in hitting percentage (.266).
SIU will host Evansville in the final match of the season on Thursday, November 16, at 7 p.m. in Davies Gym after the Salukis travel to Bradley on Friday, November 10, and Northern Iowa on Saturday, November 4.
