CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois volleyball team announced its 2012 schedule, Friday, for its first season under head coach Justin Ingram.
The Salukis have a slate of 29 matches with three non-conference tournaments, 18 Missouri Valley Conference matches and two other non-conference tilts against regional rivals.
Southern kicks off 2012 at the Memphis Invitational August 24-25 where the Salukis will take on Eastern Michigan, Memphis and Austin Peay. SIU travels next to the Billiken Invitational August 31 and September 1 in St. Louis where it will face South Alabama, Saint Louis and Valparaiso.
Volleyball returns to SIU Arena again in 2012 as Southern will host the Saluki Invitational in the Arena September 7-8. SIU will host Nicholls State, Arkansas-Little Rock and UT Martin in the event.
The Salukis will play their first match of the year at Davies Gym September 11 against Southeast Missouri State before opening up MVC play and finishing a six-match home stand September 14-15 against Indiana State and Illinois State.
Southern will play its first Valley road matches of the season September 21-22 against 2011 NCAA participants Missouri State and Wichita State before returning to Carbondale to take on Creighton and Drake September 28-29.
The Salukis take their final foray outside conference October 2 when the team travels to Murray State before hosting Evansville October 5. SIU will close out the first half of Valley play October 12-13 as the Salukis travel to Bradley and Northern Iowa, who finished the 2012 season ranked 18th in the nation.
Wichita State and Missouri State make the return trip to Carbondale October 19-20 before the Salukis embark on a three-game road swing October 26-27 at Drake and Creighton and November 2 at Evansville. SIU hosts Northern Iowa and Bradley November 9-10 before closing the regular season November 16-17 at Illinois State and Indiana State.
