After coming off of a great weekend of wins against Indiana State and Illinois State, we were ready to get back in the gym to practice. We started this week with an awesome recruit visit and a new addition to the SIU volleyball family!

Throughout this week of practice we really worked hard to improve our game. We knew that this upcoming weekend would bring some tough competition: Missouri State and Wichita State. We had a short week of only three practices before we hit the road to Springfield, Missouri on Thursday afternoon.

We played Missouri State on Friday night at 7. Although the game started off slow, it soon developed into a well-fought battle. We went to 4 sets this match, and each point was played with great intensity. The final result was Missouri State, 3 sets, to our 1. We were disappointed about our first conference loss, but we realized we had a quick turn-around to our next match against Wichita State the following night. The bus ride from Springfield to Wichita was nearly 5 hours long, so we didn't get in until 3:00 the next morning. We were able to sleep in a little that morning before we started our next Saluki game-day routine.

We watched film and went over the game plan for the Wichita State match. We knew we had a lot to overcome to beat this well-rounded team. Despite the late night of traveling, we were ready to play. This match was tough, resulting in a 3-0 loss for the team. Again, we were disappointed with the loss, but it did give us a lot to focus on in this next week of practice. We ended this weekend with one of our longest road trips of the season; a 9 hour drive back to Carbondale. We arrived back in Saluki Nation at about 6:30 Sunday morning. After a long weekend of traveling, the Salukis took off Sunday to rest and prepare for another hard week of practice.

We will spend this coming week preparing for our home matches next weekend against Creighton and Drake. We are confident that we can persevere and tally two more conference wins this weekend!
