    CARBONDALE, Ill.-- The Southern Illinois volleyball team returns to Davies Gym this weekend to host Bradley and Loyola for the second weekend of Missouri Valley Conference play.

    WHAT’S ON TAP The second weekend of Missouri Valley Conference play gets underway as the Salukis return to Carbondale. Southern Illinois will welcome Bradley and Loyola University Chicago to Davies Gym. The in-state competition kicks-off on Friday at 7 p.m. with Bradley followed by a 3 p.m. match on Saturday with Loyola.

    LAST TIME OUT Southern Illinois topped Murray State last Tuesday in four-sets in its final non-conference match of the season. The Salukis split the weekend on the road topping Indiana State in three sets on Friday before falling to the Redbirds of Illinois State on Sunday in straight sets.

    SCOUTING BRADLEY Bradley University opened up Missouri Valley Conference play last weekend topping the Bulldogs of Drake in straight sets. The Braves lead the conference in assists with 13.03 per set and kills averaging 13.57 per set. Amy Angelos leads the team and ranks third in the Valley in hitting percentage with an impressive clip of .346. Angelos also ranks fourth in the MVC in kills with 3.59 per set. Melissa Hoerber leads the league in service aces. Hoerber has tallied 13 this season.

    SCOUTING LOYOLA Loyola is in its first season in the Missouri Valley Conference. This will be the Salukis and Ramblers first conference meeting but fifth overall meeting. The two teams have met four times prior with the last meeting taking place in 1995. SIU leads its all-time series with LU, 3-1. Loyola split its opening weekend in the MVC falling to UNI before picking up a three-set win over Drake. Morgan Reardon leads her team and ranks fifth in the Valley in kills averaging 3.34 per set. The Ramblers also boast Brittany Brown who is second in the MVC in service aces with 15 recorded this season.

    FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Hannah Kaminsky had a productive weekend as the Salukis topped Murray State in a mid-week match and then split with Indiana State and Illinois State on the road. The freshman recorded a total of 29 digs for Southern to average 2.90 per set. Kaminsky also dished out 127 assists in 10 sets for an average of 12.70 per set. The Woodrdige, Ill. native was also active at the net contributing nine kills and three blocks. She also served up four aces over the weekend.

    WHITE-HOT Jessica Whitehead continued to stay hot for Southern Illinois this past week. On Tuesday, Whitehead was the spark the Salukis needed to top Murray State in four sets, as she was virtually untouchable. The senior knocked in 25 kills for an impressive attack percentage of .465. Whitehead worked the Racer defense only committing five errors on her 43 attempts. On Friday, Whitehead had another stellar night recording a total of 17 kills to average 5.60 per set in the Salukis sweep of Indiana State.

    MVC PRESEASON POLL Southern Illinois was selected to finish fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason coaches poll. Southern returns four letterwinners from a team that finished 21-9, 11-7 MVC in 2012. Fresh off its first-ever NCAA Sweet 16 appearance, Wichita State was tabbed as the league favorite.
