It was a great week for Saluki Volleyball! After a tough weekend against Missouri State and Wichita State, the team was ready to get back into practice. Our main focus throughout the week of practice was going back to fundamentals. We also stressed the importance of communication and we fine-tuned our blocking skills and defensive positioning. We had a great week of practice and a lot of progress was made. By the end of the week we were eager to get on the court and play Creighton and Drake.

Before the Creighton game, we studied film and discussed what we needed to do to get the win! After the team meeting, we got pumped up and ready for the match. We beat Creighton in the first set of the game but lost the second set. The Salukis regrouped in the locker room and we came out fighting in the third set. After a thrilling match, we won the third and fourth set, beating the #1 ranked team in the conference! It was a great game and a huge win for the program! Senior, Laura Thole, gave a good summary of our energy after the match when she said, "I just want to bottle this!"

We couldn't celebrate too long as we had a quick turnaround to play Drake at 3 p.m. the next day. After a good night's rest, the team met the next day for serve and pass and to watch film on the Drake volleyball team. The team went through the usual pre-game routine and prepared for the match. Just like the night before, the Salukis won the first set but then lost the second set. We, once again, regrouped and came out with a different attitude for the third and fourth set. We were a bit shaky throughout the game but we showed our true fighting spirit in the final set to win the match!

After the match many of the players on the team got together to go to the Saluki football game with a recruit that we had for the weekend. Everyone had a lot of fun, and we loved showing the recruit what Southern Illinois has to offer! We look forward to another great week and we are preparing for our game on Tuesday against Murray State and Friday against Evansville!
