CARBONDALE, Ill.-- The Southern Illinois volleyball team hits the road for the third weekend of Missouri Valley Conference play. The Salukis will travel to Wichita State on Friday night for a 7 p.m. match with the Shockers. On Saturday Southern will play Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. at 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT Southern Illinois split its games last weekend at home. The Salukis dropped a five-set match to Bradley but picked up a four set win on Saturday afternoon against Loyola.
SCOUTING WICHITA STATE Wichita State enters the weekend with an unscathed conference record of 3-0. WSU topped UNI and Drake last weekend. The Shockers boast the top offense in the league leading the Valley in hitting percentage (.301) and ranking second in kills (13.76/set). Ashley Andrade (.451) and Elizabeth Field (.410) lead the conference in hitting percentage while Andrade also ranks second in blocks averaging 1.22 per set.
SCOUTING MISSOURI STATE The Bears return home to host Southern Illinois after spending the last 11 of their 15 matches on the road. SIU and MSU will tip-off at 7 p.m. for the Bears' Dig Pink breast cancer awareness match. Missouri State split its matches last weekend sweeping Drake before falling to UNI in five sets. Amber Doolittle leads the MSU offense ranking seventh in the MVC in hitting percentage with a .321 clip. Kayla Walton follows with a .313 hitting percentage. Missouri State leads its all-time series with the Salukis SIU 46-16, winning 15 of the last 17 meetings.
IN THE BOOKS Jessica Whitehead has recorded 242 kills so far this season to tally 1,127 during her collegiate career. The senior now enters the record books ranking ninth all-time in SIU history. The Murphysboro, Ill. native also enters the books in kills per set ranking fifth all time averaging 3.29 per set. Whitehead is on pace to crack the top-five in kills, kills per set and attempts.
SERVING IT UP The Salukis serve was effective last weekend as SIU tallied 14 service aces to average 1.56 aces per set. Freshman Meg Viggars, Hannah Kaminsky, and Katie Baki knocked in three apiece. Baki served seven consecutive points against Loyola on Saturday giving SIU the go ahead 25-16 match win.
ON THE ROAD The Salukis played five matches at home in the month of September but will now hit the road for most of October. SIU's road swing kicks off this weekend when they travel to Wichita State and Missouri State. Southern will return the following weekend for their only two home matches of the month, hosting Drake and UNI, then will return to the road for two more weekends visiting Evansville, Loyola and Bradley.
