This is the ninth weekly installment of diaries from the 2012 Saluki volleyball team.

    By Mary Bogdanski

Coming from an amazing weekend with big wins against Creighton and Drake, we started to prepare for Murray State and Evansville. We really needed to hone in on this week of practice, focusing on our mechanics and communication. We studied up on Murray State and left for the match Tuesday while traveling there, playing, and traveling back on the same day. While we were in Kentucky, we ran into an unusual event about how Rachael Brown was known as Little Rachael.

As we kept asking her how that name came to be… she finally spilled the beans. Rachel stood up in front of the whole table and told us how even though she was apart of the family first, her aunt who was married into the family was given the title Big Rachel. We did not understand this concept because Rachel Brown was taller and apart of the family first. So now we refer to Rachael Brown as our little Rachael of the team. We are all still so fascinated!

After dinner, we got ready for our match against Murray State. Even though we stumbled the first two sets, we persevered and took three sets in a row to win the match. The fact that we never gave up and fought hard to win the last three sets, is a big positive that came from that match.

The rest of the week we practiced hard and focused on high-energy volleyball as well as our mechanics. On Friday we prepared to play Evansville and really wanted to start out the match with high-energy and high intensity. It was our Dig for the Cure match and we wore pink socks, ribbons, headbands, and warm up shirts. It was a very nice full pink crowd.

We definitely followed through with keeping high-energy through out the match and kept our momentum going. We beat Evansville 3 sets to none. Following the match we signed posters for all of our fans.

It is fall break this weekend and we have no school Monday and Tuesday. Most of the girls are going home to visit their family and rest up for our big matches coming up this weekend versus Bradley and Northern Iowa.

    Go Salukis!
