    CARBONDALE, Ill.-- Southern Illinois has one game on tap for the weekend. The Salukis will travel to Evansville, Ind. on Friday. SIU and Purple Aces will get underway from the Carson Center at 7 p.m.

    LAST TIME OUT Southern Illinois finished last weekend with a 2-0 record, topping Drake and Northern Iowa. On Friday, SIU topped Drake in straight sets and pulled out a four-set win on Saturday against UNI.

    SCOUTING EVANSVILLE Evansville enters Friday's match with a 7-12 overall record and a 2-6 record in the Missouri Valley Conference. UE senior Rachel TenHoor set a school record, hitting .737 in Evansville's win over Drake last Saturday. TenHoor compiled 14 kills on 19 attempts with no errors. Ashley Ring is Evansville's kill-leader with 247 recorded this season to average a team-high 3.63 per set. Jenn Murphy leads the Purple Aces in assists averaging 9.13 per set to rank seventh in the Missouri Valley Conference. Last season, Southern Illinois topped UE in both its meetings. SIU leads its all-time series with Evansville 35-11.

    HISTORIC VICTORY The Southern Illinois volleyball team recorded its second historic win of the season last Saturday, topping Northern Iowa for the first time since 1993. The Salukis looked as sharp as they have all season topping the Panthers in four sets to end a 40-match losing streak against UNI.

    MVC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Hannah Kaminsky was named the MVC Freshman of the Week while Alex Rivera was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Kaminsky, a freshman setter recorded eight kills, 78 assists, three service aces, 14 digs and four block assists during seven sets of play. Rivera recorded 38 digs to average 5.43 per set.

    SUCCESS IN SPRINGFIELD (FINALLY) Southern Illinois topped Missouri State on Saturday, Oct. 5 in a thrilling five-set duel. This was the first time in 15 years the Salukis beat Missouri State on its home court. The last season Southern Illinois saw a victory in Springfield was during the 1998 under the direction of Saluki great Sonya Locke.

    NCAA NATIONAL RANKINGS NCAA statistics were released Monday and senior Jessica Whitehead ranks 36th in the nation in kills averaging 4.05 per set. She also cracked the top-50 in points per set ranking 50th with 4.41. Taylor Pippen ranks 104th in the country in blocks averaging 1.14 per set. Setter Hannah Kaminsky ranks 101st in assists per set averaging 10.11 per set.

    VALLEY GIRLS Southern Illinois currently is in fourth place in the Missouri Valley Conference with a MVC record of 5-3. Illinois State improved to 7-0 in MVC action and remains as the league's sole unbeaten team after two impressive victories last weekend. Bradley's victory over Loyola on Saturday was the Braves 10th victory of the season, surpassing the team's overall win total from 2012.
