CARBONDALE, Ill.-- The Southern Illinois University volleyball team welcomes Wichita State on Friday night and Missouri State on Saturday night for the sixth weekend of Missouri Valley Conference action.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK Southern Illinois was on the road last weekend playing at Bradley and Northern Iowa. The Salukis picked up a win against Bradley in five-set thriller Friday night. Saturday SIU traveled to UNI and fell to the Panthers in three sets.
SIU vs. WICHITA STATE Southern Illinois traveled to Wichita State for the Salukis first Valley road trip of the season. The Shockers defeated SIU in three straight sets. WSU is currently third in the MVC with a conference record of 7-2. WSU boasts setter Chelsey Feekin. Feekin is currently ranked first in the nation in hitting percentage with a .472 clip. Emily Adney leads the team in kills and is seventh in the Valley with a total of 243. Adney is also a threat at the line, ranking fourth in the MVC in service aces with 23 on the season. Jackie Church defends Wichita's backcourt averaging 4.59 digs per set.
SIU vs. MISSOURI STATE The Salukis last met up with Missouri State on Sept. 21. The Bears topped SIU in four sets handing them their first MVC loss of the season. The Lady Bears rank second in the MVC in kills with an average of 14.10 per set. Kaitlin Jaeger and Christine McCartney lead the MSU offense with the help of setter Carly Thomas who ranks 26th in the nation in assists. This weekend Thomas will be looking to surpass 3,0000 career assists.
FIVE-SET FEAT The Salukis captured a win Friday night in a five-set match against Bradley. Southern Illinois has had only three matches this season extended to five sets. Southern has shown their grit and resilience claiming victories in each five-set thriller. In the fifth set of play, Southern has won by a margin of four, six, and nine points.
HOME SWEET HOME Southern Illinois returns home this weekend hosting Wichita State on Friday night and Missouri State on Saturday. Currently, the Salukis are undefeated on their home court boasting a home record of 9-0. This streak sets a new record as Southern's last longest home winning streak was eight games in 1994.
VALLEY STANDINGS Halfway through the league schedule, the top six teams in the standings are separated by just three games, with two-way ties for both first-place and fifth-place. Creighton and UNI will begin the second-half of the conference slate with league-leading 8-1 records, while Wichita State (7-2 MVC) and Southern Illinois (6-3 MVC) trail the Bluejays and Panthers by one and two games, respectively. Illinois State and Missouri State sit in a lock for fifth with identical 5-4 MVC records
RPI RATINGS The second edition of the NCAA RPI (Oct. 15) saw six Valley teams in the top-100. The Rating Percentage Index is one of many factors used by NCAA sports committees when evaluating Division I teams for postseason selection, seeding and bracketing. Creighton leads the Valley teams (29), and is followed by Wichita State (36), UNI (43), Southern Illinois (76), Missouri State (90) and Illinois State (95).
A-MAYES-ING Alysia Mayes is having a breakout senior season. This season, Mayes recorded a career-high 21 kills at Murray State on Oct. 2. She also broke an SIU single-match record in the same game with 14 block assists. On Friday Oct. 5, Mayes recorded16 kills on 19 attempts to post a career-high hitting efficiency of .842. Mayes now ranks third all-time in SIU history for a single match hitting percentage. Currently Mayes is nationally ranked in several statistical categories among all Division I players. She is ranked 10th in the nation in hitting percentage (.412), 18th in blocks per set (1.44), and 17th in points per set (4.98).
YEAGER DIGS IN Senior Bailey Yeager continues to move up the record book in career digs. The Brownsburg, Ind. native broke 1,000 digs on September 14 against Indiana State and now totals 1168 digs to place her fourth all-time in SIU history. Yeager is currently ranked 24th in the nation in digs per set.
TRANSFERRING OVER NICELY Rollins College transfer Amy Drabant has been stellar for Southern in her first season as a Saluki. The sophomore setter is atop the rankings in the Missouri Valley Conference in assists with a total of 723 to average 11.58 per set. The Wheaton, Ill. native is currently ranked 13th in the nation in assists per set.
TOP-50 TEAM NCAA weekly statistics were released Monday and Southern Illinois is ranked with in the top-50 in five of seven categories among all 328 Division I programs. Southern is ranked 30th in match win-loss percentage (.800), 27th in hitting percentage (.257), 38th in assists per set (13.04), 1st in kills per set (13.92), and 45thin blocks per set (2.52).
