    CARBONDALE, Ill.-- The Southern Illinois University volleyball team will open up the second half of Missouri Valley Conference play on the road this weekend. The Salukis are slated for two matches beginning on Friday at Loyola followed by a Saturday match at Bradley.

    The Salukis enter the weekend riding a four-match win streak and currently hold a fourth place standing in the MVC.

    SCOUTING LOYOLA Loyola enters the weekend having dropped four straight matches and five of its last six overall. Last weekend the Ramblers fell to Wichita State and Missouri State in straight sets. LU has a balanced offense as five players average over one kill per set. Stephanie Kinane guards the Loyola back court averaging 4.38 digs per set. Southern topped Loyola in four sets on Sept. 28.

    SCOUTING BRADLEY  Bradley is 4-5 or better at the halfway point of the league schedule for the first time since the 2005 season and sit in the sixth in the league standings after nine conference matches. The Braves return home and look for a victory after falling to Missouri State and Wichita State last weekend. Senior Amy Angeloshas averaged 3.13 kills per set and boasts a .400 attack percentage in her last five matches against Southern Illinois. Fellow senior Lauren Zerante is third in the MVC in digs per set. Southern dropped a five-set heart breaker to BU on Sept. 27.

    MVC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Hannah Kaminsky was named the MVC Freshman of the Week on Monday to mark the second consecutive week earning conference accolades. The Woodridge, Ill. native paced the SIU offense last Friday recording her ninth double-double of the season compiling 15 digs and 51 assists in four sets of the play. The setter also knocked in four kills.

    KILL ARTIST Jessica Whitehead recorded 18 kills in SIU’s win over Evansville on Friday. Whitehead has now tallied 1,203 career kills to rank sixth all-time n SIU history. The senior also currently holds third all-time in kills per set averaging 3.32

    NCAA NATIONAL RANKINGS NCAA statistics were released Monday and senior Jessica Whitehead ranks 34th in the nation in kills averaging 4.08 per set. She also cracked the top-50 in points per set ranking 45th with 4.45. Setter Hannah Kaminsky ranks 88th in assists per set averaging 10.27 per set.

    CHICAGO HOMECOMING Southern Illinois will visit Loyola on Friday for its first Missouri Valley Conference match with the Ramblers at the Gentile Arena. The match in Chicago will be a homecoming for five Saluki players who hail from the Chicago area. Earlier this season Southern topped Loyola in Carbondale, 3-1.

    NEXT TIME OUT Southern returns home next weekend to host Wichita State and Missouri State. The Salukis will play five of their final seven games at home.
