This is the twelfth weekly installment of diaries from the 2012 Saluki volleyball team.

After an exciting win against Missouri State on Saturday night we were feeling good about going into the second round of conference play, but once Monday came it was back to business in the gym to prepare for the upcoming matches against Drake and Creighton.

Throughout the week of practice we put extra emphasis on our blocking and passing mechanics, knowing that these would be essential skills to hone in on for the upcoming weekend. Even though we were putting hard work in at practice, we still had time for some bonding with the other athletes. On Wednesday night we all attended the student athlete bon fire where we had good food, fun, and a very competitive game of rock paper scissors. It was a great opportunity to meet athletes from other teams. The next day we departed from Carbondale at 11:30 am due to the long drive to Drake. On the bus there was never a dull moment, and we entertained ourselves by watching Snow White and the Huntsman and the Hunger Games, a personal favorite of mine.

On Friday after a good nights sleep, a good meal, and film, we were prepared to take on the Bulldogs. The match was a battle for both teams, but in the end we came up on top, beating Drake in four sets. This win gave us the most conference wins since 2002! After the match we drove to Omaha where we played Creighton on Saturday.

We came out with energy and confidence and took the first set. The next three sets we had difficulty getting into our rhythms and struggled with our serving, which has been a key aspect of our success this season. After a disappointing loss against the Bluejays, we began our long truck home to Carbondale. Although we are disappointed with our loss to Creighton, we are determined and dedicated as we get back in the gym and better ourselves to prepare for this upcoming weekend. We will play at Evansville on Friday at 7:00pm.
