    CARBONDALE, Ill.—The Southern Illinois University volleyball team will take their final road trip of the regular season traveling to Northern Iowa and Drake this weekend. SIU and the Panthers will get underway Friday at 7 p.m. and then travel for a Saturday night match with the Bulldogs.

    DAWG BITES Southern Illinois split its matches at home last weekend falling to Missouri State before picking up a historic victory over Wichita State on Saturday. The Salukis are fourth in the MVC in blocks per set (2.31), and fifth in the Valley in aces per set with 1.15. They are also sixth in the MVC in assists per set (12.20), hitting percentage (0.201), kills per set (13.03), and match win-loss percentage (0.520). Jessica Whitehead is 31st in the nation and second in the MVC in kills per set with 4.12. She is also 43rd in the nation and second in the MVC in points per set with 4.46. Taylor Pippen is currently 75th in the nation and fourth in the Valley in blocks per set with 1.19.

    SCOUTING NORTHERN IOWA The Panthers now have a 10-2 record in the Missouri Valley Conference and have taken first outright in the Valley after a Wichita State loss on Saturday night. UNI is first in the MVC in digs per set (17.39), kills per set (14.29), and assists per set (13.37). They are second in the Valley in match win-loss percentage (.750) and third in blocks per set (2.46) and hitting percentage (0.233). Sophomore Kinsey Caldwell is 24th in the nation and second in the MVC in assists per set with 11.21. Fellow sophomore Courtney Kintzel is 59th in the nation and second in the Valley in blocks per set with 1.23. Freshman Amie Held has moved up to 82nd in the nation and eighth in the conference in digs per set with 4.54. Senior Shelby Kintzel is sixth in the MVC in hitting percentage with 0.323.

    SCOUTING DRAKE Drake lost a three-set home match to UNI on Saturday night. Junior Amanda Platte and freshman Capris Quaites led the Bulldogs with eight kills each. Platte leads the team in kills with 228 and kills per set at 2.78. Platte has smashed double figures in a team-high 11 matches. Senior Sarah Madden is second in The Valley in digs per set at 5.11 and is currently third all-time at Drake with 1,453 career digs. Southern topped Drake in three sets on October 11 in Carbondale.

    HISTORIC VICTORY Southern Illinois recorded a historic win Saturday night topping Wichita State for the fi rst time in 11 years. The Shockers held a 23-match win streak against the Salukis entering Saturday’s competition. SIU last topped Wichita State on September 13, 2002, in Wichita and had not defeated the Shockers in Carbondale since September 21, 2001

    ROOKIE SEASON TO REMEMBER Hannah Kaminsky continues to have a breakout freshman season for Southern Illinois. After last weekend’s action Kaminsky has tallied 858 assists and is on pace to crack 1,000 and enter the Saluki record book. The three-time MVC Freshman of the Week currently averages a team high 10.34 assists per set.

    SALUKIS VS. PANTHERS SIU defeated Northern Iowa for the first time since 1993 on October 12 in Carbondale. The last time Southern Illinois topped the Panthers in Cedar Falls was in 1985.

    AROUND THE VALLEY With just three conference weekends remaining on the 2013 regular-season schedule, the top three teams in the standings - UNI, Wichita State and Illinois State - are separated by just a few games. The middle of the pack - Missouri State and Southern Illinois - will look to make a move up the league standings, while the bottom five teams - Bradley, Loyola, Indiana State, Evansville and Drake - will need to secure positive outcomes in the remaining weeks to have an opportunity to compete in the 2013 MVC Volleyball Championship.

    NEXT TIME OUT Southern will return to Carbondale for its final three home games of the season (Nov. 15, 22, 23).
