    CARBONDALE, Ill.--Southern Illinois volleyball returns home this Friday to host the Purple Aces of Evansville. The Salukis enter the contest fresh off a weekend sweep of Northern Iowa and Drake.

    FACULTY APPRECIATION NIGHT As a way to thank those who have coached SIU student-athletes off the court, Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night is scheduled this Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m. in Davies Gym. All SIU faculty, staff and their families will receive tickets for two dollars.

    DAWG BITES Southern Illinois swept its matches last weekend on the road topping Northern Iowa in four sets on Friday and sweeping Drake on Saturday.

    BATTLE IN THE VALLEY With just two conference weekends remaining, seeding and positions for the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Championship is still up for grabs with room for maneuvering during the final two weeks of the regular-season. Wichita State (12-3 MVC) and UNI (11-3 MVC) have already punched their tickets to the MVC Championship, while Missouri State (10-5 MVC), Southern Illinois (10-5 MVC), Illinois State (9-5 MVC), Bradley (6-8 MVC), Loyola (6-8 MVC), Indiana State (4-10 MVC) and Evansville (4-11 MVC) are still in contention for a tournament bid. Drake (0-14 MVC) has already been eliminated from championship contention.

    SCOUTING EVANSVILLE Fresh off of its three-set sweep at Drake, the Purple Aces volleyball team will make its final road trip of the regular season to Southern Illinois. Evansville improved to 9-17 and 4-11 in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 3-0 win at Drake on Sunday. With a 3-0 win over Drake on Sunday, the Aces won two league road contests for the first time since 2010. SIU topped UE in four sets on Oct. 18 in Evansville.

    YET ANOTHER HISTORIC WIN Southern Illinois recorded yet another historic victory last Friday night defeating Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls for the first time since 1985. Southern topped UNI in four sets. This win marked the first time in program history that the Salukis have swept the season series against the Panthers. Southern Illinois topped UNI in Carbondale on October 12 in four sets.

    PLAYERS OF THE WEEK After a monumental weekend, the Saluki volleyball team picked up two Missouri Valley Conference player of the week honors, the conference announced Monday. Viggars, a native Stoke-on-Trent, England, was named the Valley's Defensive Player of the Week after her clutch performances in both Saluki upsets of UNI and Drake this past weekend. On Friday's upset of UNI, Viggars recorded a double-double, compiling 12 kills, 22 digs and four block assists. She finished the weekend with 27 digs to average 3.86 per set and seven block assists to average one per set. Kaminsky, a native of Woodridge, Ill., was an offensive force in Southern's two wins earning Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season. The setter dished out an impressive 91 assists to average 13 per set. Kaminsky also added 19 digs and two block assists. On Friday's match against the Panthers, Kaminsky recorded a team-high 53 assists and 12 digs.

    WINDING DOWN Southern Illinois returns to Carbondale for the final two weekends of conference play. The Salukis will look to secure a top spot in the Missouri Valley Conference as they host Evansville this Friday and will welcome Illinois State and Indiana State next weekend. This season SIU holds a 4-2 conference home record.
