Southern Illinois will hit the road for their final two regular matches of the 2012 season.

CARBONDALE, Ill.-- The Southern Illinois University volleyball team will be traveling to Illinois State on Friday and Indiana State on Saturday for their final two matches of the regular season.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK Southern Illinois hosted UNI and Bradley in their final home stand of the season. The Salukis fell to UNI on Friday night but picked up a win against Bradley on Saturday.
SIU vs. ILLINOIS STATE Southern Illinois trails their all-time series with the Redbirds 8-64. The Salukis and Illinois State last met on Sep. 15. in Carbondale. Southern shut down ISU in three sets. Ashley Rosch and Brooklyn Hlafka lead the Redbirds offensively. Rosch has tallied 291 kills while Hlafka has recorded 216. Jenny Mendez guards the ISU backcourt averaging 5.32 digs per set while LeighAnn Hranka is a force at the net averaging 1.29 blocks per set.
SIU vs. INDIANA STATE SIU leads their all-time series with Indiana State 42-17. The Sycamores traveled to play Southern Illinois on Sep. 14 falling in three sets to the Salukis. Shea Doran is an offensive threat for ISU tallying 321 kills this season to average 3.38 per set. Doran also leads the team defensively averaging 0.74 blocks per set. Loni Mackinson quarterbacks the Sycamores averaging 7.53 assists per set.
SEE YOU IN SPRINGFIELD Southern Illinois secured a spot in the 2012 Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Championship that will be held Nov. 22-24 in Springfield, Mo. The Salukis will make their 14th tournament appearance in 31 seasons, and the team's first since 2009. With just one conference weekends remaining, positions for the 2012 MVC Volleyball Championship have been locked in by six league teams. Creighton, UNI, and Wichita State have clinched the first three seeds. Southern Illinois, Illinois State and Missouri State are in a battle for the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 seeds this weekend.
20/20 VISION The Salukis topped Bradley Saturday night in four sets to record their 20th win of the season on Senior Night. This is Southern Illinois' first 20-win season since the 2002 squad finished with an overall record of 23-10.
DIGGING IN THE RECORD BOOK Senior Bailey Yeager continues to move up the record book in career digs. The Brownsburg, Ind. native broke 1,000 digs on September 14 against Indiana State and now totals 1,355 career digs to move up to rank third in the record book tying Saluki great Kristie Kemner in all-time career digs in Southern Illinois program history. Yeager has also tallied 561 digs this season and is on pace to break the single-season digs record which stands at 569 digs.
SENIOR SEND-OFF Saturday's match was the final home contest for Rachael Brown, Alysia Mayes, Laura Thole, and Bailey Yeager. The 2012 senior class has left their mark on SIU volleyball as each senior holds a spot in the record book. Brown ranks ninth for assists in a single season, Mayes ranks second in career hitting percentage, fifth in career solo blocks and seventh in block assists, Thole ranks fifth in attempts in a season, and Yeager ranks third in career digs.
IMMEDIATE IMPACT Saluki newcomers Taylor Pippen and Amy Drabant have played major roles in Southern Illinois' success this season. Pippen is an offensive threat posting the second highest team hitting efficiency this season with a hitting clip of .292. The freshman has totaled 216 kills to average 2.18 per set. Sophomore Amy Drabant quarterbacks the Saluki offense averaging 11.72 assists per set to total an impressive 1090 assists so far this season.
KILLIN' IT The Saluki hitters have been red-hot this season. Laura Thole, Jessica Whitehead, and Alysia Mayes currently hold the top-three spots in kills in the Missouri Valley Conference. Thole has tallied 376, Whitehead, 356, and Mayes has compiled 352 kills this season.
HONORS ROLL IN The Missouri Valley Conference recognized Bailey Yeager last Monday with the league's MVC Leadership & Service Award. The award honors outstanding achievement in the classroom and in the community. Yeager was also named First Team Capital One Academic All-District Team. Alysia Mayes was named a Second-Team Academic All-District Member. Yeager boasts a 3.92 GPA in speech communicatin disorders while Mayes holds a 3.76 GPA in exercise science. Yeager's first-team honor advances her to the ballot for Academic All-America honors, which will be decided in late November
MAYES MAKES HISTORY Alysia Mayes recorded a career-high 21 kills at Murray State on Oct. 2. She also broke an SIU single-match record in the same game with 14 block assists. On Friday Oct. 5, Mayes recorded 16 kills on 19 attempts to post a career-high hitting efficiency of .842. Mayes now ranks third all-time in SIU history for a single match hitting percentage. Mayes also ranks fifth all-time in school history in career block-assists with 289. The senior middle blocker also holds a spot inside the top-ten in block solos with a career total of 92 ranking seventh all-time.
HOW MAY I ASSIST YOU? Rollins College transfer Amy Drabant has been stellar for Southern in her first season as a Saluki. The sophomore setter is atop the rankings in the Missouri Valley Conference in assists with a total of 1090 to average 11.72 per set. The Wheaton, Ill. native is currently ranked 9th in the nation in assists per set and is on pace to enter the top-ten in assists in a season in SIU program history.
STATISTICALLY SOUND NCAA weekly statistics were released Monday and Southern Illinois is ranked with in the top-100 in five of seven categoires among all 328 Division I programs. Southern is ranked 37th in assists per set (13.14), 42nd in match win-loss percentage (0.741), 28th in bocks per set (2.67), 53rd in hitting percentage (0.242) and kills per set (13.92).
